Trend Alert: Make Your Groom Groovy!

So far, most of Lucky In Love Event's posts have been directed towards the LADIES (rightfully so ha!)...nevertheless, it is time to shine some light on our other half - the BOYS! If you a dedicated reader of this blog, you know that the usual underlying theme of the posts is "updating tradition through fresh ideas, creative spins, and mixing things up!" This motto is not one sided and is most certainly applicable to our beloved grooms! 


Men's attire for his BIG DAY has evolved, or should I say un-evolved, over the past 5 years - and let me just say "un-evolved" is definitely not a bad thing! Men's attire has, like most things wedding, lent itself to creativity and personal taste. The black tux-and-bowtie deal is not the most common route these days...the modern groom is trading in his formal wear for a simply suite and tie, and the more daring of those fellows are even going as far to flaunt CONVERSE shoes on his magical day!


Men's wedding attire may have become more casual, way more fun, and especially personal (which is the most important part of anything on your BIG day!). Whether it is a funky tie, old-school suspenders, a fancy Fedora hat, a sport coat & khakis, crazy socks, or his favorite sneakers, let your groom have the opportunity to flaunt his style! It is important that he influence the day as much as the bride herself..it is about the marriage of TWO people after all. His style creativity will bring a fresh element to the whole day...and evoke true happiness inside and out! What's Under That Dress?

No, the title of this post is NOT referring to the lingerie you received at your bachelorette party...I am talking about something WAY better in my opinion. You've already got the diamond in hand, so what is girl's next best friend? - Shoes! Like most females, I have a thing for shoes... my theory is that you just simply cannot have too many pairs, styles, colors, etc. (my husband would definitely disagree with that statement!). And if you ever have a more opportune time to splurge on your shoe fantasies, it is on your wedding day!!!

Now ladies, as I keep mentioning, the modern bride is at more liberty to do what she wants compared to the past...so please, do not hesitate to get out of the plain-white-satin-close toed-ultra traditional-conservative heel FUNK! Be fun, be bold, and buy those sexy heels you have always wanted. I'm thinking Carrie Bradshaw would give you similar advice :) If you are worried about being to LOUD with your shoes, no worries...no one will know what you got under that dress during the ceremony..it is not till the reception. Whether it is when your dress is swooshing during a group dance or when you hike up that dress for the garter toss, guests will love seeing glimpses of your "too cool" shoes!

Bottomline: Your wedding day is all about having a magical and fun time from head to TOE! Fresh Idea Friday: Guestbook Revamp

First I must send out me apologies and vent out my frustration. This post was written and ready to go on last Friday; however, the hosting company of the blog had a technical failure across all the blogs...and well, all our recent posts were lost (sad face!). Because I love the thought of bringing new ideas to an event, I decided to re-write my original post for today and we will pretend it is supposed to be "Fresh Idea Monday" instead of "Friday!" Enjoy!

Guestbooks are a staple at any Wedding and are a great "suvonier" from the BIG DAY. I personally love going back through our guestbook to see all the fun notes and wishes from our fabulous guests - it never gets old! These days, guestbooks are becoming more than your typical "sign your name on the line" type of deal; rather, modern guestbook creations truly allow the bride & groom to capture the support of their loved ones forever.

With a little creativity, a guestbook can be created out of pretty much anything! All you need is a medium for your guests to convey their love and wishes towards you - whether that be by book, note, object, or even painting...the choice is yours! Check out some of the wonderfully unique and sentimental "modern guestbooks" below!

1. Wish Bowl:

Have your guests write a note, good wishes, fun memories, or expert advise on a slip of paper and provide a container for them to drop it in. The collection of "wishes" are super fun to go through after your BIG DAY! To make the "wishes" last a lifetime, glue the paper wishes into a scrapbook afterwards.

2. Wish Tree:

A wish tree is similar to the "wish bowl" guestbook; however, your wishes get to be part of the event decor! Use manzanita branches to create a small tree-like arrangement. Provide guests with custom tags and ask them to write you a wish, or even a "wedding prayer," and hang it from the tree afterwards. The "wish tree" is a truly sentimental element that is great for any wedding - and it is fun for guests to share their love!

3. Thumbprint Tree:

This idea has just started recently - and I am loving it! You can buy this custom blank tree print on Etsy. At your wedding, provide guests with an ink pad and some nice felt writing pens. Each guest adds their "leaf" thumbprint to your tree and signs their name below it. Your once blank tree will be flourishing with leaves by the end of the night! A thumbprint tree not only is a very sentimental, but once framed, it is a great piece of artwork for your new home!

4. Sign an Object:

If you have a favorite"object" or a decorative piece that is signable, use it as your guestbook! Provide several permanent markers for your guests, and encourage them to write wishes and notes on your selected object. Big sports fan? Have your guests sign a small statue of your teams mascot. Love sitting on your back porch? Have guests sign all over your new rocking chairs! The ideas on this guestbook are endless (and fun!)

5. Photobooth:

Photobooths are definitely a hot trend, and now there are thousands of photobooth rental companies in any area. The rental company will set up a small photobooth in your event venue. Guests get to pile in the booth to take a number of silly pictures. Pictures print out instantly and can placed in a book along with the guests' wishes! This idea is so fun for guests, and will provide years of laughter for the bride and groom!

6. Photobook:

Take a collection of your engagement picture, or photos from your past, and make a custom photobook on Shutterfly. The book will be similar to a "yearbook!" Guests get to look through your photos as they write their notes and wishes! Provide several metallic markers to "snazz-up" your special book!

7. Typewriter:

If you are a nostalgic or vintage inspired bride, the typewrite guestbook should be under definite consideration! Find an old typewriter at an antique store or thrift shop...and load it up with some fresh ink and linen paper. Have guests type a short, but sweet, memo to you both as they enter the reception venue. Guests will have so much fun typing on something OTHER than a computer!

*** Remember, the more creative elements at your event, the more "special" everything feels. Guests truly enjoy getting to participate in clever ideas that take a spin on tradition - so don't hold back!

Mixing Old with New: Where's Your Blue?

"Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue!"

 As an event planner, I love being awed by a creative interpretation of traditionally customs from today's modern bride. We all know the saying posted above...and have heard it since we were dreaming of our princess wedding at age 5. Our mother's and mother's mother and mother's mother's mother have all followed these guidelines to ensure superstitious good luck on the marriage. Now, after years of brides stuffing old, new, borrowed, and blue items upon themselves..where does the modern bride find ways to shake it up a little?

While planning my own wedding back in September of 2010, I took a lot time considering the question of "how to honor tradition but put my own spin on it?" One of my main focuses was the "Something Blue." For me personally, I wanted to the BLUE to be bright and loud (which did not go along with my neutral color scheme). Since I have a slight obsession with shoes, I figured that was the best route for me to go. I found these AMAZING eclectic blue platform heels at Off-Broadway Shoes - I may be biased, but they were so perfect!!! Not only did I love the shoes themselves, but even more so, my guests had no idea what I was hiding under my dress. It was not until the reception, when I was bogeying to the band, that glimpses of my blue heels peeped through and then EVERYONE wanted to check them out! It was one of those fun little surprises! Shoes are certainly not the only modern route to interpreting "Something Blue." These days, the possibilities are truly endless and with sites like Etsy, well lets just say it opens up a lot of doors. Do some looking around...post your favorite finds!
